These cover the use of this website, including the page scan it offers. Using the site means you agree to them. If you go on to become a client, a separate written agreement covers the paid work, and where the two disagree, that agreement wins.

Who these terms are with

“Pickle Octopus,” “we,” “us” and “our” mean Pickle Octopus and anyone working for or affiliated with it. “You” means whoever is using the site.

What the scan is

You give us the address of a landing page. We retrieve that page, read what is publicly served at it, and send you a short set of observations about it. Some of that reading is automated and some of it is done by a person before anything is sent. It is normally with you within one business day.

What the scan is not

It is an opinion, offered free, about a page we have looked at briefly. It is not professional advice, it is not an audit, and it is not a promise that acting on it will change your results. Any figures we quote about past work are past results for other companies, under their conditions, and are not a forecast of yours. Decisions you take after reading it are yours.

The page you submit

By submitting an address you confirm you are entitled to ask us to look at that page — that it is your organization’s page, or that you are otherwise authorized to have it reviewed. We only retrieve what is publicly available at the address you give us. We do not log in, we do not attempt to reach anything behind a password, and we do not try to get at parts of a site that are not openly served.

Using the site sensibly

Do not use the scan to attack, overload, probe or map somebody else’s systems, do not submit addresses in bulk or by automated means, and do not use the site for anything unlawful. We can decline any submission, or stop responding to a sender, without explaining why.

Fees

Nothing on this site costs anything. The scan is free and asks for no payment details. The price published on the home page is what the ongoing service costs if you later choose to engage us, and no charge of any kind arises until there is a signed agreement in place.

What belongs to whom

The site, its text, and the way the scan works are ours. The page you submit and everything on it remain yours. The observations we send you are yours to use, share internally, or ignore entirely.

Availability

This is a small operation. The site may be unavailable, the scan may fail on a given page, and we may change or withdraw either at any time without notice.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Pickle Octopus and anyone affiliated with it are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits or lost revenue, arising out of the site or the scan. Our total liability for any claim connected to the free scan or this website is limited to one hundred dollars. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top is the date of the current version, and the version in force is the one published here when you use the site.
